Tom Zajac
As an Executive-in-Residence at Noro-Moseley Partners, Tom works alongside NMP’s Healthcare team to identify new investment opportunities within growth-stage healthcare IT and healthcare services companies.
Tom brings over 35 years of operating experience in the healthcare industry, having built clinical, financial and operational performance improvement solutions, and led multiple healthcare technology companies through rapid growth, delivering industry-leading customer satisfaction. Most recently, he served as CEO of Population Health Management at Koninklijke Philips N.V. (“Philips”), a leading worldwide health technology company. Prior to his role at Philips, Tom served as President and CEO of Wellcentive, a cloud-based population health management solution enabling the shift to value-based care payment models. Tom led Wellcentive from 2013 until 2016, rapidly scaling the business to national leadership. NMP provided early and growth capital to the business in 2011-2014, and it was acquired by Philips in 2016.
Previously, Tom served as the Chief Customer Officer of Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information, where he was responsible for servicing for more than 3,000 healthcare customers. Tom joined Elsevier in 2011 as President and CEO of Elsevier|MEDai, a leading provider of predictive analytics and clinical solutions for both payers and providers. Prior to Elsevier, Tom was President and CEO of CareScience, where he built the company into one of the leading providers of clinical decision support and quality improvement solutions, resulting in the company’s IPO in 2000, subsequent merger with Quovadx in 2003 and sale to Premier Health in 2007.
In addition, Tom spent nearly 12 years as COO of Transition Systems’ (“TSI”). During his tenure, the business grew into a market leader in healthcare decision support products and services, with over 1,200 U.S. and international provider and payer customers. TSI’s success included its IPO in 1996 and subsequent merger with Eclipsys.
Tom’s experience in healthcare and his commitment to customer focus began with his tenure at Jefferson Health System in Philadelphia. While at Jefferson, Tom directed the design and implementation of business processes to support the transition to prospective payment, including the health system’s decision to implement ground breaking decision support solutions.
Tom currently serves as Executive Chairman of Empyrean, a Houston based benefits management and employee engagement provider. He has previously served on the boards of a number of health technology companies including Wellcentive, CareScience, and AI Insight, a subsidiary of RELX PLC (fka Reed Elsevier).
Tom holds a BS in engineering and finance and an MBA from Drexel University. He is a Senior Scholar in the Jefferson School of Population Health, and serves on several government and industry advisory boards.
